How many of us had big dreams when we were young about how cool and amazing having a job will be? I wanted to be a vet, have loads of pets (not a career but hey), be a doctor, a pilot, a scuba diver… the list goes on.

For a lot of us the real truth is, we won’t get to have a dream job or even love what we do for a living. Because capitalizing on your passion/hobbies isn’t as dreamy as it sounds. For those who have now fulfilled these ’dream jobs’… how did it feel when you ‘made it’? Probably not as good as you thought huh… Buttttt I’m a pessimist with a need to lighten up so please let me know!

For a lot of young people nowadays in this economy the goal is to survive and build something for themselves, be independent. This requires money which requires a job which requires (all of) your time. Time spent out of searching/living for your passions, but this is a struggle we have to choose; be broke and passionate or independent (and dead inside).

This topic popped up when I quit my job while having no other option simply because the money was not worth the mental pain the job was causing me, I felt like I’d rather be broke but mentally driven to find my calling. But I soon found out that passion dies if one does not keep finding ways to keep it alight, which is hard WORK. But this is when we choose what in life we want to struggle for… because sadly, life is kinda full of struggles.

Being a young person trying to find your way in 2020 is hard, so many opinions and voices telling you which direction you must go but the world is changing so rapidly, in ways that are hard to immedately understand. Covid-19 has completely thrown the world on it’s head, so if you are like me and having constant mental breakdowns about who and what you must be, take a moment to reflect on the fact that no-one has any f***ing idea what’s happening anymore. So try to take it easy on yourself and encourage others to do the same.
